Events at Kew are well planned and thought out, and we know that music will play a massive part in your day, so it needs to be right. If you are looking to get married at Kew Gardens, we suggest starting with some beautiful acoustic music and instrumental songs that will set the tone for your wedding ceremony at The Nash Conservatory.

Following on, our roaming bands, wandering acts, and artists who can tailor their performances to you and your chosen spaces work brilliantly. Our in-house roaming band knows Kew Gardens very well, and Emerald Strings is one of the most loved Kew Gardens live performers.

Dinner music at Kew can often get overlooked. A playlist of your favourite songs is a brilliant idea but for that added wow factor, a jazz duo or trio can’t be beaten.

How We Work At Kew Gardens

Kew is a truly unique and incredible space, and like a lot of venues it has it’s quirks. That is where our existing knowledge of Kew and our relationships with Kew’s recommended suppliers comes in to it’s own. We know all about how to make the logistics work, from loading in at The Nash to setting up a band at The Orangery. We take care of all of the pre-event details, making sure that the Kew Events team have all the documents they need and your caterer has all the details they need ahead of the day.

Our bands and acts are able to supply a lot of their own equipment for their performances, and where they can’t we work with the incredible team at Storm. They work in conjunction with out performers and bands to make sure that what they need is set and ready to go, and the technical aspects are all taken care of and we have been working alongside their teams for years.

What this means for you is that wherever possible you are getting the best price for production and performers and there is no doubling up or overlap, keeping it simple, elegant and totally in keeping with the space.

Kew Gardens Wedding FAQ

Our most asked questions for weddings at Kew Gardens. We work at Kew regularly, but it is worth noting that rules do change from time to time, so always check with the brilliant Kew Events Team and use this FAQ as a great starting point and guide for live music at Kew.

Where Can I Get Married at Kew Gardens?

Most people either choose to get married in The Nash Conservatory for a Tri Wedr at Cambridge Cottage for sding, omaller gatherings and celebrations. Both venues are licensed for civil ceremonies.

Can I Have A Live Band For My Wedding At Kew Gardens?

Absolutely! Live party and wedding bands work incredibly well in The Orangery or in The Temperate House. Our bands have regularly worked at both and we recommend between a 4 and 7 piece band for the best possible sound.

Is Live Music Allowed Outside?

Live music is so important for a wedding at Kew Gardens and you can have live music outside on the Banks Lawn or inside The Princess Of Wales Conservatory. Our Acoustic Guitar Duo and in house roaming band The Strolling Tones, are a perfect fit for both spaces.

What Time Does Music Have To Finish At Kew?

As standard, or all events live musicias must stop at midnight. This is in The Orangery, Cambridge Cottage and Temperate House. Kew Gardens are able to extend their music license in The Orangery, but do have a limited number of times this can be done each year. Talk to the Kew Events team for more information.

Where Does The Band Set Up At Kew Gardens?

For a wedding in The Orangery, bands set up at the far end opposite where you will be seated for your wedding breakfast. The bands typically use all of the width and come out the same distance at the wall opposite the windows. This is more than enough space for any of our bands, even with a DJ add on.

Can I Have A Sax Player?

One of our most popular musicians for weddings at Kew Gardens are our roster of saxophone players. They work brilliantly during your cocktails and later into the evening accompanying a live band or with DJ Sax Live.

Will Musicians Be Able To Play On The Lawns At Cambridge Cottage?

Cambridge Cottage has slightly different rules to the other parts of the venue. Live musicians are allowed in all of the indoor spaces, but are not allowed on the lawns to remain respectful of the nearby residence. That doesn’t stop the performers from being inside the bay window with the doors open however, allowing you to still enjoy the music.

Are Bands That Aren’t Recommended Allowed?

Kew has a selection of entertainment providers who have great rosters of musicians and talent, but we understand that you might have found your perfect band elsewhere. Gecko Live is not a preferred supplier for Kew, but we work there each year providing bands, artists and live performers. In these cases, we have a really strong relationship with Storm, one of Kew’s preferred Production suppliers, who we work with closely to make sure that you can have any of the acts from our roster for your wedding at Kew.

All of our bands and musicians meet the criteria for Kew including the requirements for Public Liability, PAT Testing, Risk Assessments and Production Requirements.

Is There A Sound Limit At Kew Gardens?

Kew does have a sound limit. In our experience of working at Kew, bands with up to 7 people are able to work in The Orangery and up to 5 Temperate House, our team never have any issues. Cambridge Cottage has different regulations, and we suggest you speak with your Kew event coordinator.

What Is Better, A Band Or A DJ For My Wedding At Kew?

We are firm believers in experiences over things, so for us we always suggest an awesome lively band. A band’s live energy in The Orangery or Temperate House is infectious and nothing will beat it. Talk to our team to see how we have created bespoke quotes for clients combining both a live band and DJ for the evening party, roaming band for the drinks reception and elegant string quartet for the ceremony.

Band’s provide the energy, DJs provide the most flexibility with genres and style, so have both!
